The Giant Otter is a large mammal that is incredible let's begin. The male Giant Otter weighs 57 to 71 pounds while females between 49 and 57 pounds. Males are between the lengths 4 feet11 inches to 5 feet 7 inches. Females grow to be between 3 feet to 4 feet11 inches. Some males have grown to an exceptional size reaching sizes between 7 and 10 feet. The Giant Otter has reddish or fawn colored fur. When the Giant Otter is in the water its fur appears to be black though it is reddish or fawn color. The fur of a Giant Otter is so dense that water can't penetrate the skin. The Giant Otter is a diurnal species of mammal. The Giant Otter is an incredibly social animal it lives in groups where group members range from 2 to 20 members. The Giant Otter is an Apex predator. They mainly feed on fish such as Cichlids, Perch, Characins ( such as piranhas), and cat fish. The Giant Otter prefers shallow water where it is about 2 .0 feet deep. If fish are unavailable they will eat crabs, other crustaceans, snakes, and even small anacondas and Caimans! They are amphibious and terrestrial. They clear a large amount of vegetation to make sites or dens One remark stated that the maximum area is 92 feet. Predators of the Giant otter include black Caimans, Yacare Caimans, Green Anacondas, Jaguars, Cougars. They live to be 8 years, but this lifespan can expand to 17 years. The Giant Otter relies on its sharp vision and highly sensitive whiskers to track down and hunt its prey. The Giant Otter Lives in South America.
