The African Wildcat is a truly amazing wildcat that is beautiful and majestic, and you also get the amazing chance to learn about it. These incredible felines have a brown sandy coat. The ears of the African wildcat have tufts on the end and are a reddish tan color. The underside of the African Wildcat is a whitish tan color. Both male and female African wildcat weigh between 7.1 to 9.9 pounds. They have a body length of 10 inches to 14 inches with the tail being 9 to 13 inches long. They are also 14 inches tall. The African wildcat lives in Africa, the middle east, and as far as central Asia. It can be found in deserts, sub tropical and tropical grasslands, Savannas, and shrub lands. The African Wildcat rarely drinks water because like many other animals it gets all its hydration from its prey. The African wildcat has many different prey species such as mice, rats, gerbils, hares, small to medium sized birds, antelope young, livestock, and invertebrates. It gives birth to two to five cubs after a gestation period of 56 to 60 days. After about fourteen days cubs open their eyes. In 3 months cubs start learning hunting techniques. They are primarily nocturnal, but in wet and cooler seasons they become crepuscular. In the wild they have a lifespan of 12 to 15 years. They are also an incredibly stealthy creature and will bury their feces to avoid any detection from other cats and predators. One way they hunt is through the trees since they are incredible climbers and jumpers. When the African wildcat captures large prey it breaks it up into pieces to eat. They also seem to be sanitary because they lick their paws after eating their prey. As I mentioned on how they are stealthy they lick blood off their fur to be really sure nothing finds it. I hope you enjoyed learning about the African wildcat.
