They usually hunt in pairs, but they sometimes will hunt with three individuals. They also target smaller game such as rats, mice, hares, snakes, lizards, eggs and ground nesting birds such as pheasants and francolins. They have also been reported to eat cats and poultry. They have also been known to trail tigers and eat their kill, and in China they eat giant panda cubs. In the winter months they will usually hunt musk deer. It will also eat nectar and fruits.
