The Cape Cobra Is an Incredible species of Cobra that you get to learn about today. Let's get started. The Cape Cobra is a mid sized species of cobra It ranges In length between 3.9 to 4.6 feet In length, but some Incredibly large Individuals may grow to be 5.2 feet long. The largest Individual ever found was 6.1 feet long. Like most cobras this species has extra skin around Its neck which puffs out to form a Hood which warns a predator that Its about to strike. It also Is highly venomous Its venom consists of neurotoxins and cardiotoxins which effect the nervous system and the respiratory system along with many other major organs. The Cape cobra Is endemic to Southern Africa. It often Inhabits rodent burrows, termite mounds, hollow logs, and rock crevices. The Cape Cobra Is diurnal, but during extremely hot days It adapts and become crepuscular. The Cape Cobra is terrestrial, although It Is always ready to climb or swim. The Cape Cobra will eat rodents, Carrion, lizards, snakes, birds. The Cape cobra can be cannibalistic In rare occasions as sometimes It eats their own young. The cape Cobra Is a very Intimidating species, but It does have predators that Includes honey badgers, Secretary birds, Snake eagles, Meerkats, mongoose, and other birds of prey. The Cape Cobra Is oviparous and Its mating season Is between September and October. Females lay between 8 and 20 eggs. Hatchlings are between 13 and 16 Inches In length at birth. It also has really good eyesight and relies heavily on Its eyes and Its tongue. In the Cape cobras body there Is this organ called the Jacobsons organ which helps snakes piece together thermal Images while they flick their tongue.
