The Coyote is a common animal that is beautiful and majestic animal that I will tell you about let's begin. Male Coyotes weigh between 18 and 44 pounds while females weigh 15 to 40 pounds. Coyotes overall length is between. 3 feet 3 inches to 4 feet. 5 inches. They are also 1.5 feet tall. The largest Coyote ever recorded was a male in Afton, Wyoming was shot and was 4 feet 11 inches and it weighed 75 pounds! Coyotes breed through January and march, but their peak season is in February. Females give birth to an average of six pups per litter. Coyote territory Is 015 square miles to 24 square miles large. Coyotes eat many different things such as bison (largely as carrion), white-tailed deer, mule deer, moose, elk, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, rabbits, hares, rodents, birds (especially galliformes, roadrunners, young water birds and pigeons and doves), amphibians (except toads), lizards, snakes, turtles and tortoises, fish, crustaceans, insects, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, sarsaparillas, peaches, pears, apples, prickly pears, chapotes, persimmons, peanuts, watermelons, cantaloupes, and carrots.. When taking down large ungulates they will usually hunt and take down their prey in small groups or a pairs. Coyotes form mutualistic relationships with American Badgers. The Badger will assist in digging up the prey while the Coyote is also digging and trying to kill the prey, and as a result they will share their prey. Coyotes have even been seen resting their head on Badger and licking their companion. In the wild Coyotes have a few competitors. In Sierra, Nevada Coyotes will compete with Cougars for mule deer though Cougars usually do out compete Coyotes. Coyotes will also compete with Gray wolves for food and due to the competition with cougars and wolves it will usually lower the smaller predators that they eat like Bobcats. Adult Coyotes are preyed on by American Black Bears, Grizzly bears, American Alligators, Canada Lynx, and Golden eagles. When a Coyote is solitary it will usually. be challenged by Wolverines, Wolves, Cougars, and bears. I hope you enjoyed learning about the Coyote.
