Red wolves are some of the most endangered Canines in the world. There are 17 in the wild and 270 in the Red Wolf SAFE. Red wolves are found in Northeastern North Carolina they used to live in Texas and Pennsylvania. Red wolves eat white tailed deers, rodents, small mammals, birds, and insects. Males weigh 64 pounds and females typically weigh 55 pounds. The red Wolf is 53 to 65 inches long and is 26 inches tall at the shoulder. The Red wolf's mating season is in January and February. Females usually give birth to 6 to 7 pups In a litter. Red wolf pups are fully grown at one year and are fully mature at 2 years. Red wolves can run up to an astonishing speed of 30 miles per hour!! The red wolf is Nocturnal, but it can be crepuscular. The Red wolf communicates through howls, whines, growls, and body language. As said in the name of a the Red wolf their fur is a cinnamon reddish type of color. When Red wolves howl this helps maintain pack cohesion.
