The Maned wolf is a large canine In south America. It lives in Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, and Paraguay. According to sources on the internet it is almost extinct in Uruguay. They are primarily solitary animals. It communicates through scent marking. It also will release call called a roar barking. Maned wolves are omnivorous they eat eggs, vegetables, Rodents, Rabbits,Fish, and Insects. The Maned Wolf is also a seed disperser they eat a fruit called a wolf apple, they eat the fruit and disperse It In the savanna. The Maned Wolf has 42 teeth like many other canines. They weigh between 44- 66 LBS ( 20 - 30 KG ) and are 35 to 39 inches tall. The Maned Wolf is 49 inches long. The Maned wolf is active during the hours 8 A.M. to 10 A.M. and 8 P.M. to 10 P.M.. Female Maned Wolves give birth to 2 - 6 pups in a litter. The Maned wolf is preyed on by mostly large cats like the puma and jaguar. The Maned wolf territory is about 12 sq miles large. The Maned Wolf has the longest legs of any canine in the world! A fun fact is males guard the den while the females hunt when a litter has been born. They have giant ears to hear small prey.
