The Java Mouse Deer is 18 inches long and 12 inches tall. The Java Mouse Deer weighs 2.2 to 4.4 pounds. Males are usually heavier than females. The Java Mouse Deer is native to Java, Indonesia. The Java Mouse Deer was once thought to be nocturnal, but it is not it is crepuscular not diurnal. The Java mouse deer is a Folivore, it eats shrubs, fruit, and other plants. It has also been observed eating insects. A group of Java Mouse Deer is commonly referred to as a herd. Males are referred to as bucks or bulls. The Females are called fawns. Males use sharp fangs to defend their territory or to fight for mates. the Java Mouse Deer's mating season is between November and December. The Java mouse deer usually gives birth to one fawn. Though the Java Mouse Deer has a small appearance they can reach speeds up to 30 miles per hour. When frightened the Java mouse deer can jump up to 3 feet in the air.
