The Japanese macaque or the snow monkey is a fascinating species that is different from many other primates due to its distinct environment. The Japanese Macaque is a sexually dimorphic primate with males being larger than females. The Average weight of a male Japanese macaque weighing around 25 pounds. Females are smaller and weigh 19 pounds. Males are 22 inches tall and females are 20 inches tall. The tail of a Japanese Macaque is 3 inches long. Japanese Macaques are incredible swimmers. They almost are required to be good swimmers due to the fact that they rest in hot springs in the Japanese mountains. Japanese Macaques live in the forests of Japan, but during the winter it becomes grueling in the winter with temperatures as low as -4 degrees Fahrenheit, but these clever primates have adapted to stay warm by resting in the hot springs in the mountains of japan. Japanese Macaques eat insects, soil, bark, flowers, and sometimes nectar, fruit, mature leaves, invertebrates, fungi, ferns, and many other species of plants. When the Japanese Macaques main food items are not available they will dig up roots and they will find fish. When the Japanese Macaque is moving its troop or eating they will usually communicate using "Coos". The Japanese Macaque is a highly intelligent species. A group of researchers were studying this majestic creature an they found out then when a person left out sweet potatoes for them a female would wash the potato in the river before eating. The Japanese Macaque is a diurnal animal. They also feed during different times in different seasons.
