The Fisher is an incredible species in Mustelid family that is not well known so let's dive in. Fishers have various predators that includes Bears, Wolverines, coyotes, great horned owls, golden eagles, mountain lions, and lynx. Males are 47 inches and weigh 8 to 13 pounds. Females are 37 inches and weigh 4 to 6 pounds. Their main prey is snowshoe hares and porcupines, but they have been recorded eating insects, mushrooms, nuts, and berries. Their has also been bird and deer remains found in the stomach of a Fisher which means they will scavenge. Although this is uncommon Fishers have been known to take down larger prey such as wild turkeys, raccoon, fox, marten, mink, otter, bobcat, and Canada lynx. Fishers are mainly crepuscular, being active during dawn and dusk. They are active year round not pausing in winter to hibernate. Fishers live in new England, mid west, and the Appalachians. Fishers are incredible climbers and can climb down trees head first due to special rotating ankles. Fishers are also fast reaching speeds up to 18 miles per hour. I hope you enjoyed learning about this incredible species.
