The Emperor penguin is a majestic and well known animal that is primarily known for its waddling technique when on land. Adult Emperor Penguins are between 43 and 47 inches in length they weigh between 50 and 100 pounds males are usually larger than females this is a display of sexual dimorphism. The Emperor penguin breed lives in the coldest environment out of any bird they can survive In temperatures that drop all the way down to negative 40 degrees Fahrenheit and they can survive in wind speeds all the way up to 89 miles per hour. the Emperor Penguin lives in Antartica. They eat Crustaceans, Cephalopods, Antarctic silver fish, hooked squid, other species of fish, Antarctic krill, and Giant warty squid. Predators of the Emperor Penguin include Southern giant petrels, Southern polar skua, leopard seals, and orcas. These majestic Emperor Penguins begin to show displays of courtship around March or April. This species of penguin is typically a white, black, orange, and yellow combination, but in some rare cases they can be a macaroni yellow color all over their body. On land Penguins waddle at 1.5 miles per hour they are incredibly slow on land, but they can reach speeds up to 22 miles per hour in the water when they are hunting. A hunting strategy of the Emperor Penguin is to dive 160 feet under the surface of the water they will quickly look for prey and then they will surface to get air. The feathers on a penguin aren't just for looks in fact those feathers make up 80 to 90 % of their insulation they also have a sub dermal layer of fat that keeps them warm in the extremely cold weather. of their harsh habitat. If a chick is threatened by a predator and it is weak or sick the parent of the chick will occasionally protect their chick under any means necessary. when a couple o loses an eg or a chick they usually walk back to the water and quickly swim their separate ways.
