The Black Backed Jackal is a beautiful animal with some wild features. The Black backed jackal is a wild canine and it weighs 13 to 29 pounds. The Black Backed Jackal is 15 to 19 inches at the shoulder. Body lengths of the Black Backed Jackal are between 26 and 32 inches long. The Blacked Backed Jackal is monogamous and territorial. Black Backed Jackals eat Beetles, Grass hoppers, crickets, termites, millipedes, Spiders, Scorpions, rodents, hares, Young antelopes, Birds, Bird eggs, Lizards, Snakes, Fruits, berries, springbok, duiker, reedbok, steenbok, mongooses, polecats, wildcats, African penguins, marine sea birds, impala, Topi tsessebe, Dik dik, Thomsons Gazelle, seals, and fish. Though they stick to these prey species if a larger animal is sick they will take it down. A pair was observed hunting a sick bull rhinoceros. The Black backed Jackal lives in coastal arid areas in Africa. Some predators of the Black Backed Jackal are The Side striped Jackal, African wolf, Spotted Hyena, Honey Badger, Brown hyena, Painted dog, and leopards. The black Backed Jackal can reach an astonishing speed of 40 miles per hour and have a bite force of 180 PSI!
